Ms. Karen J. Baugh, M.Ed.

1st Grade Reading Teacher
Art and Humanities K-6
859-261-2100 ext 2161

My name is Karen Baugh and literacy & language arts has been a lifelong career focus. My teaching service to our Ludlow Elementary students has varied throughout my 18 years of experience in the roles of regular classroom teacher and special area teacher.

During the 2018-2019, I will teach First Grade Reading to my homeroom students, then continue the day as an Arts & Humanities special area teacher.

I look forward to guiding my first graders through the process of literacy development, and putting to work the knowledge and training from both of my Master's degrees: Reading Specialist K-12 from Xavier University, and English As A Second Language  K-12 Certification from Georgetown College. I am excited to work on the 1st Grade Teaching Team with Ms. Richmond and Ms. Setty. I value their experience and expertise for support in providing the best for our primary students. In addition, I also consider it a privilege to work with our students' parents and families to prioritize literacy development in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing among our first graders.

In my Arts & Humanities classes, both primary and intermediate students will Explore, Express and Evaluate the arts: Music, Art, Dance and Drama.

Prior to my classroom experience, I was a practicing journalist at two major newspapers for almost 14 years. I hold two Bachelor degrees from Northern Kentucky University: one in journalism, one in elementary education. While teaching elementary students, I also taught and supervised undergraduates and graduates at Xaxier University. I have been a professional singer for many years, and have accomplished work as an artist and in the theater.

I consider it a priviledge to serve students of all ages as we move through various learning experiences together.
