Description:

6th Grade Social Studies is going to be a journey back in time!!  As we travel to the different ancient civilizatons, we are going to learn about the five themes of geography and bring it alive in the classroom. This year, it will be resource base units which includes vocabulary, dates, events, activities, projects, quizzes, tests, group work to bring History Alive!  Get ready to travel back in TIME!

  • Week 4 NTI DAYs

    Dear Parents/Guardians/Students,

    Please Watch Daily Video of announcements, updates, shout outs, and assignments in Social Studies/Writing Google Classroom!

    We are in WEEK 4 NTI Days! I have opened a new quest in Classcraft--Ancient India--Geography.  All work is now online--no paper copies.  I do have a Google Classroom for both writing (code fkv3nhm) and social studies (code go32ire).  I have linked Classcraft to the Google Classrooms, but everything is to be submitted in Classcraft only! Please only submit in Google Classroom when I send you a message to do so!  Please FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!  I will open a new writing entry on Tuesday!  Reminder: Power-up and Mathia Daily! Any questions, please reach out through email or messaging in Classcraft or Google Classroom.  Have a great week!

    Dear Parents/Guardians/Students,

    Our Week 2 of NTI days has come to a close!๐Ÿ˜ข SPRING BREAK IS HERE!๐Ÿ˜Ž

    Thanks to all the students who have worked very hard completing social studies and writing!

    Those of you who still need to submit work can continue to do so, however, I will only check once a day classcraft--Monday--Friday next week. We will resume with WEEK 3 NTI Days on Monday, April 13th. At this point, all assignments will be online through Classcraft and Google Classroom for social studies and writing. We will have regular TEAM Meetings--I will send out the schedule either Sunday, April 12th or first thing on Monday, the 13th. Have a wonderful SPRING BREAK!๐Ÿงก

  • WEEK 2 NTI Days

    WEEK 2--March 30th--April 3rd

    Dear 6th Grade Students,

     

    We are making History!  Unprecedented closing of schools and doing remote learning! I do not want to overwhelm you with stress, but I do want to challenge you to continue to learn and to grow as a student.  Please try to follow the schedule below:

     

    • Get your Power-Up Minutes weekly (Reading RTI)

    • Spend 30 minutes a day on ALEKS, Mathia, or Dreambox (Math RTI)

    • Spend 30 minutes a day reading--Ebooks, Library Online, or just books

      • Taking Reading counts tests

    • Classcraft for social studies and writing--paper copies are in your folder

      • We talked about this in class--earn points while working!

      • Anything done in Classcraft will be graded within 24 hours (Monday--Friday 10:00am--2:00pm)

      • Directions are in the Quest in Classcraft or follow directions in packet

     

    Learning Target:  I can identify the key aspects of daily life for five social classes in ancient Egypt.

     

    Essential Question: How did social class affect daily life in ancient Egypt? 

     

    Monday--March 30th--Classcraft

    Social studies--

    • Read the article “ The Egyptian Mummy Project”

    • Comparing and Contrasting Then and Now--fill in the Techniques and Effects from the Early 1900s to Today

     

    Tuesday--March 31st--Classcraft

    Social studies--

    • Reread the article “The Egyptian Mummy Project”

    • Writing a Compare and Contrast paragraph in Classcraft and submit

    • Take the quiz “The Egyptian Mummy Project”  

    • Post answers in Classcraft--number 1-10 and just post the letter of the correct answer.

     

    Wednesday--April 1st--Classcraft

    Writing--

    • Go to Classcraft Writing Journal--Do a 10 minute write of the picture post, type into Classcraft and submit. 

     

    Thursday--April 2nd--Classcraft

    Social Studies--

    • Read the article “The Decline of Ancient Egypt

    • Complete the matrix answering the questions “How did this period or change in rule begin?”  and “What effect did this period or ruler have on Egypt?” for each time period.

    • Complete #2 & #3 using the statement for the article.

     

    Friday--April 3rd--Classcraft

    Writing--

    • Go to Classcraft Writing Journal--Do a 10 minute write of the picture post, type into Classcraft and submit. 

     

    Social Studies--

    • Choose either  “The 5 Steps to Mummification” or “The Timeline of the Decline of Ancient Egypt”  to create a powerpoint in Google Slides on one of these topics. 

    • Use information from the articles read this week--NO Copying and Pasting from the Internet!

  • TEAMs Meeting

    On Monday, March 30th, I plan to have a TEAM meeting with each of my Rotations. Please login to your email account but click on the icon TEAMS instead of Outlook and you should have a message for the time your rotation will meet.  You should have recieved an alert for the meeting on your device.  

    This is a trial run!  Would like to meet with students!  I will be using this at a later date for instruction.

    At our meeting time--Login to school email and click on app "Teams" and click on the blue calendar--join from team announcement, then click join and it should connect.

    This is all new to me-- so we are in this together and learning together! 

    I will making  WEEK 2 social studies Quest live in Classcraft Sunday night, March 29th and adding to the Writing Journal Quest for our 10 Minute Write.

    I will be grading all work posted in Classcraft from Week 1 on Monday, March 30th--PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE WORK POSTED IN CLASSCRAFT FOR BOTH SOCIAL STUDIES AND WRITING!
