Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year. I’m excited to spend this year with your 6th grader. This is my 19th year teaching but only my 4th here at Ludlow. I am a Ludlow native and happy to be back home teaching 6th grade.
Congratulations to you and your child on making it to the last year of their elementary experience! 6th grade is an academically challenging year. We are working on transitioning to middle school and the work becomes more rigorous. We will be learning from Spirngboard (a comprehensive language arts program) and we will also be reading novels, weekly nonfiction articles (both on line and in print), developing our writing skills through various writing pieces, creating original poetry, learning Greek and Latin prefixes and suffixes and so much more.
6th graders are also expected to complete independent reading for their Reading Counts points. There are many interesting novels in our library as well as a collection in the classroom. Reading is a key to all other classes so it’s important read daily!
There are also expectations and responsibilities for the 6th graders. The younger grades look to the 6th graders as leaders of the school and we expect them to behave as leaders. My goal is to create a safe, peaceful classroom for your 6th grader, allowing them to learn in a classroom without interference from others. I expect all students to be prepared, polite, positive, respectful, and reflective of their learning.
Please contact me anytime you have questions or concerns. I know you want your 6th grader to have a successful year as much as I do. Working together, we can make this happen.
